About
A French data platform engineer who keeps building things on the side.
I'm David Morel. French, based mostly in Amsterdam with a foot still in Lyon. I work as a data platform engineer — Python, Terraform, dbt, Databricks, Postgres, Snowflake — in English most days.
Outside of work, I keep building things. Native macOS apps in Swift, CLI utilities in Python, small services, the occasional Perl module. The pattern is usually the same: I notice something I do by hand more than three times, decide that's three times too many, and turn it into a repository. Some grow into apps I sign and notarise. Most stay as scripts. All of them are open source whenever possible.
The site name, Amakuru, is the Kinyarwanda greeting that means "what's the news?" — the kind of question you ask someone you haven't seen in a while, where the honest answer is a story. That felt like the right frame for this kind of writing.
I work as a registered ZZP freelancer in Amsterdam and am available for new contracts. The quickest way to reach me about engagements is via my LinkedIn profile.
